On December 19th, a child accidentally stumbled and fell into the water from the bank of the Yellow River in Qikou Town, Lin County, Lvliang City, Shanxi Province. At the critical moment, Zhu Keyu, a teacher from our School, who was on a business trip in Shanxi, happened to pass by. Without hesitation, he and his companions rushed down the riverbank and jumped into the icy cold water of the Yellow River, successfully rescuing the boy onto the land. The deeds of Zhu Keyu and others who bravely saved the drowning child have caused great response after being reported by Lvliang Radio and Television Station, and have been highly praised by the local people.
According to Zhu Keyu's recollection, he was on a business trip and happened to pass by the Yellow River bank. When he heard a crowd shouting for help, he ran towards the river without even thinking. At that time, the child who stumbled and got drowned only had his head still above the water, and when he jumped into the Yellow River, the water immediately covered his abdomen. The Yellow River in December is icy cold and has turbulent water flow. If the rescue were slightly slower, it would be hard to imagine the consequences. Being a good swimmer and helped by his companions, he finally successfully rescued the drowning child. When the child was safely sent home, Zhu Keyu and his companions were already exhausted.
Afterwards, the local media in Lvliang conducted interviews with Zhu Keyu and his companions. Zhu Keyu said that although he was a bit scared afterwards, he was completely focused on rescuing the child in the face of an extremely urgent situation.
After learning about the heroic deeds of Zhu Keyu and others, the majority of the School faculty expressed their willingness to learn from Zhu Keyu's spirit of disregarding personal safety and rescuing others, and insisted on teaching with virtues and standing tall with morality to demonstrate the noble professional ethics and responsibility of contemporary university teachers through practical actions.
