The School of Management of Hefei University of Technology was founded as the Department of Management Engineering in 1979 and renamed as the School of Management in 1998. After 40 years of development, especially in the recent two decades, under the leadership of Academician Yang Shanlin, the academic leader, the School has consistently taken stressing morality and cultivating talents as the fundamental task, and improving the ability to cultivate top innovative talents comprehensively as the core. In face of the major strategic needs of the country, the main battlefield of economy and society, and the forefront of global scientific and technological development, the School has made significant progress in faculty construction, top innovative talents’ cultivation, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, and international exchange and cooperation, thus gradually forming its own culture of "we have a common cause". The development of the School presents a good situation of "harmony and hard work".
-- Faculty construction.The School has gathered a team of teachers with excellent ethics and style, strong innovation ability, high degree of internationalization, great dedication to education and a reasonable structure with the Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering as the discipline leader.
The School currently has 182 faculty and staff members, including one Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and more than 10 candidates of the national high-level talent projects. We have one innovation research group from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and one innovation team from the Ministry of Education. Our "Teacher Team of Decision-making Science and Information Systems Technology" has been selected as the "National Huang Danian-Style Teacher Team of Higher Education".
-- Cultivation of top-layer innovative talents.The School has two doctoral programs of first-class disciplines, namely Management Science and Engineering, and Business Administration, and postdoctoral research stations, as well as master's programs in first-class discipline of public management, among which, Management Science and Engineering is a national "Double First-class" construction discipline, and Business Administration is a key discipline in Anhui Province. There are specialized master's degree programs such as MBA, MPA, MEM, MPAcc, etc.
The School has 7 undergraduate majors, including Information Management & Information Systems, E-business and E-commerce, Business Administration, Accounting, Logistics Management, Marketing, and Big Data Management and Application, among which Information Management & Information Systems, E-business and E-commerce, Business Administration, Accounting, Logistics Management, and Marketing have been selected as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites.
The faculty have won four consecutive second prizes of the National Teaching Achievements Award, and one major teaching achievements prize, five special prizes and eight first prizes of Anhui Provincial Teaching Achievements Award. They have been editors-in-chief of 9 national-level planning textbooks for the“11thFive-year Plan” and 5 national-level planning textbooks for the“12th Five-year Plan” for ordinary higher education institutions, of which 1 is rated as a national high-quality textbook. Tow courses have been selected as national first-class undergraduate courses, 5 as national high-quality courses, 1 as national bilingual teaching demonstration course, and 20 as provincial-level high-quality courses of various categories. The School has 1 National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation and 2 National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Nominations. Some students have won important awards in the “Challenge Cup” National Undergraduate Curricular Academic Science and Technology Works by Race, China College Students’ “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (CSIIEC), China National College Students’ “Innovation, Originality and Entrepreneurship” Challenge (NCSIOEC), and other innovation contests.
For the past over 40 years, the School has trained more than 20,000 graduates of various programs. A group of outstanding alumni have made major achievements in their fields or embarked on key leadership positions, making important contributions to China’s scientific and technological progress, national defense construction, and economic and social development.
--Scientific research.The School has the Basic Science Center of the National Natural Science Foundation for "Theory and Application of Systems Engineering for Intelligent Interconnection Systems", the National-Local Joint Engineering Research Center for "Intelligent Decision-making and Information System Technology" , the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education for "Process Optimization and Intelligent Decision-making" , the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education for "Intelligent Decision-making and Information System Technology", the Philosophy and Social Sciences Laboratory of the Ministry of Education for "Data Science and Smart Social Governance", and other scientific research bases.
The School has deeply integrated science and technology in management, information, manufacturing, energy and environment, and has made significant breakthroughs in cross-research directions, such as intelligent manufacturing engineering management, smart medical health management, aerospace system management, smart energy management, e-commerce and cyberspace management. It has successively won three second prizes of the State Science and Technology Progress Award, eight first prizes of Science and Technology Award at provincial / ministerial levels, and one first prize of Humanities and Social Sciences Award of the Ministry of Education, two first prizes of Anhui Provincial Humanities and Social Sciences Award, and one prize for the World Leading Internet Scientific and Technology Achievements Award.
In the past five years, multiple academic papers have been published in high-level academic journals both domestically and internationally, includingScience China,Journal of Management Sciences in China,Journal of Management World,Accounting Research,MIS Quarterly,Information Systems Research,Production and Operations Management,Strategic Management Journal,Marketing Science,INFORMS Journal on Computing, etc.
-- Social service.The School closely integrates practical issues in national and local economic and social development practices, gives full play to advantages and characteristics in talent training and scientific research, and provides various forms of services for the society. For example, the Schoolactively promotes the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and the integration of military and civilian, and a batch of achievements have been promoted and applied to important enterprises and departments in economy, society and national defense, resulting in huge economic and social benefits. The School conducts targeted, comprehensive, forward-looking, and long-term policy research around the major decision-making needs of the country and local governments. The faculty submit multiple policy recommendations to relevant government departments, including "Policy Suggestions on Coordinating Economic Recovery and Industrial Transformation and Upgrading after the Epidemic" and "Suggestions on Accelerating the Construction and Innovative Application of 5G Networks".
The School actively organizes and undertakes academic exchange activities. For example, it founds the international academic series conferences of International Conference on Data-driven Smart/Green Manufacturing, and hosts important academic conferences, including the "2019 Annual Conference of the Society of Management Science and Engineering and the 17th China Management Science and Engineering Forum", "International Engineering Technology High-end Forum of Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering Management (2018)", "The 10th (2015) China Management Annual Conference", “The 6th (2012) China Engineering Management Forum”, etc. The School hosts two academic journals,Frontiers of Science & Technology of Engineering Management, andOperations Research and Management Science, to promote academic dissemination and lead academic development. The School also promotes the popularization of science through academic reports, popular science reports, media interviews, and the publication of popular science books.
The School presides over the compilation of the National Major Cultural Project “Encyclopedia of China (Third Edition)" (Management Science and Engineering Discipline Volume), and makes contributions to the inheritance and development of Chinese national culture and human culture.
-- Exchange and cooperation.The School has the 111 Talent Introduction Base for "Optimization and Decision-making of Complex Product Manufacturing Processes" and has introduced over 30 international first-class scholars, including Professor Fred W. Glover, Academician of the US National Academy of Engineering, Professor Nenad Mladenovic, Academician of the Academy of Europe, and Professor Panos M. Pardalos, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, to conduct joint research.
The average number of domestic and foreign well-known experts and scholars visiting the School is more than 100 person times annually, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, US National Academy of Engineering, the Academy of Europe, the chairman of INFORMS, the chairman of POM, etc. A group of renowned scholars and corporate executives have been hired as part-time professors or consultants.
