Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the list of its first batch of Philosophy and Social Sciences Laboratories. The Data Science and Smart Social Governance Laboratory of Hefei University of Technology (HFUT) was selected as one of the first batch of Philosophy and Social Sciences Laboratories of the Ministry of Education (pilot), with a total of 9 laboratories nationwide for the first batch list.
The Ministry of Education launched the pilot construction of philosophy and social sciences laboratories，aiming at reforming the organizational model of philosophy and social sciences research in universities, enhancing their original innovation and "four services" capabilities, promoting the high-quality development of philosophy and social sciences in universities, comprehensively prospering the cause of philosophy and social sciences in universities, and accelerating the construction of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics. Based on the application of various relevant universities, through preliminary research, expert evaluation, and on-site inspection, the first batch of Philosophy and Social Science Laboratories of the Ministry of Education was issued (including 9 pilot programs and 21 cultivated ones).
Currently, the modernization of the social governance system has been elevated to a national strategy. With the rapid development of the economy and society, the trend of diversified social interests and networked information diffusion has become more significant, posing more severe challenges to social governance. It is necessary to build a complete scientific theoretical system and achieve a new leap from "social management" to "social governance". At the same time, the new generation information technologies such as the Internet, big data, and artificial intelligence have driven the transformation of social governance models, and become one of the most powerful technological tools for social governance, providing strong technical support for the modernization of it. In order to promote the construction of a smart social governance system, domestic and foreign scholars have conducted in-depth research and practical exploration on social governance issues such as urban governance, health governance, and environmental governance in the new generation of information technology environment. However, there are still shortcomings in global perspective analysis and technological innovation, and they are still confronted with many scientific challenges.
In response to the above challenges, the Data Science and Smart Social Governance Laboratory of HFUT will rely on Management Science and Engineering, the "Double First-Class" Construction Discipline, and closely focus on the four targeted tasks of scientific research, strategic consulting, talent cultivation, and discipline construction to meet the major strategic needs of data science and smart social governance. It will carry out related research from the four aspects: data governance and intelligent decision-making, data-driven social credit governance, medical and health smart services, and energy environment smart governance, to achieve significant results in data science and smart social governance, and accumulate new experience in using natural science methods to study social governance issues. Meanwhile, it aims to actively explore the construction path of philosophy and social sciences laboratories with Chinese characteristic, and strive to contribute to the formation of national standards and management paradigms for the construction of philosophy and social sciences laboratories.
