On August 13th, the First Meeting in 2023 of the Academic Committee of the Philosophy and Social Sciences Laboratory of the Ministry of Education for the Data Science and Smart Social Governance Laboratory of Hefei University of Technology (HFUT) was held in the Third Academic Lecture Hall of the Conference Building of the School of Management at HFUT.
Professor Zheng Lei, President of HFUT, Academician Yang Shanlin, Laboratory Director, and Academician Chen Xiaohong, Director of the Academic Committee, were present at the meeting. Laboratory academic committee members from labs of Tsinghua University, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, National University of Defense Technology, Tianjin University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and other universities also attended the meeting.
At the meeting, President Zheng Lei delivered a speech and issued Letters of Appointment to all committee members. He pointed out that the construction of the Data Science and Smart Social Governance Laboratory was of great significance for the future development of HFUT. He hoped that under the guidance of the Academic Committee, the laboratory would carry out strategic forward-looking research and governance research on major issues related to its overall goals and main research areas, continuously explore the path of building a key laboratory of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics, and strive to make new greater contributions to the formation of national standards and management paradigms for the construction of philosophy and social sciences laboratories.
The attending members inspected the laboratory on site, reviewed and approved the Academic Committee Charter, and listened to a report on the construction of the laboratory. After discussion, the committee members unanimously agreed that the construction of the laboratory had achieved significant results since its approval, with good operating conditions and development trends. The research direction became more focused, the achievements increased continuously, the team was built fast, the quality of talent cultivation was enhanced consistently, the effect of condition construction was significant, and the rules and regulations were improved gradually. They also put forward specific suggestions and guiding opinions for the future work of the laboratory.
Professor Zhang Qiang, Dean of the School of Management of HFUT, presided over the meeting, and representatives from relevant functional departments such as the HFUT's Research Institute and Graduate School, as well as leaders from various directions of the laboratory and key teachers attended the meeting.
The Data Science and Smart Social Governance Laboratory of HFUT was approved by the Ministry of Education on November 26, 2021, and was one of the first nine philosophy and social sciences laboratories (pilot) constructed by the Ministry of Education.
