On May 8, 2023, the School of Management of HFUT invited Mr. Zhang Chenwei, Director of the Hefei Branch of KPMG Huazhen Accountants Firm (Special General Partnership), a member of the Baohe District Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and the chief partner/audit partner of Anhui Province, to give a timely lecture in the Second Lecture Hall of the Conference Building of the Engineering Management and Intelligent Manufacturing Research Center on the professional development soft skills currently concerned about by students, such as career choice and workplace communication.

Director Zhang Chenwei proved the importance of soft skills in the workplace through practical cases based on his career development experience of nearly 20 years. At the same time, he proposed how to improve soft skills in future career development, thereby leading to career success. In his lecture, Director Zhang focused on the three main themes, namely professional skills, emotional intelligence, and reverse intelligence. By setting up different scenarios to simulate communication context in the actual workplace, he allowed students to experience the role of communication, expression, and empathy in emotional intelligence in a hands-on manner. Through personal experience, he explained in reverse intelligence how to control emotions/attitudes, learn to think, understand letting go and giving up, and have firm beliefs.

After the lecture, Director Zhang had a unique discussion with the students on topics that they were concerned about during the interview, such as skills, internships, the four major accounting firms, and the daily work of auditors. Then students expressed that the lecture was very timely and had important guiding significance on the future career choices, precautions in interviews, and how to communicate and express in the workplace.

This lecture, sponsored by the Department of Accounting, was presided over by Professor Zhang Chen, and attended by nearly 100 undergraduate students of Accounting, and postgraduate students of Business Administration, and MPAcc.
