On the morning of September 29th, Researcher Zhang Rongqiao, a member of the 10th Standing Committee of the China Association for Science and Technology and the chief designer of China's first Mars exploration mission -- Tianwen 1 Project, was invited to give a special report entitled "Tianwen 1 Starts a New Journey of Planetary Exploration" to the teachers and students of Hefei University of Technology. Yu Qijun, Secretary of the HFUT Party Committee, presided over the report meeting.
In the report, Zhang Rongqiao introduced the relevant background, development process, important flight processes, key technical challenges, and current progress of China's first Mars exploration mission -- Tianwen 1, and provided prospects for the future development of planetary exploration. He reviewed the various difficulties encountered during the design, launch, and landing of the Tianwen 1 probe through four stories: "A text message, a phone call, and a video clip", "Congratulations from reporters", "A sigh from the commander", and "A silent embrace". He also reviewed the unknown touching stories and exciting moments of China's astronauts who overcame difficulties and successfully completed their first Mars exploration mission, and shared precious live images collected during the landing of China's first Mars exploration probe on Mars. He pointed out that the great cause began with dreams, based itself on innovation, and completed with practical work. The successful completion of China's first Mars exploration mission was inseparable from the development strategy experts in the aerospace field, who had the spiritual belief that“fame does not necessarily count me in”, and the forward-looking consciousness of "playing the first game well". It was also inseparable from the competent departments that had the nailing spirit of "drawing a blueprint to the end" and shouldered the historical responsibility of "success must depend on me". The most fundamental reason was the wise decision and correct leadership of the Party Central Committee and General Secretary XI Jinping. He hoped that young students would establish lofty ideals, look up to the starry sky, be down-to-earth, and take practical actions to help continue to reach new heights in interstellar navigation.
Yu Qijun expressed gratitude to Researcher Zhang for his excellent report. Yu pointed out that the Tianwen 1 mission ushered in the era of planetary exploration which belonged to the Chinese people, and the success of the Tianwen 1 mission was a landmark achievement of independent innovation and leapfrog development in China's aerospace industry. The vast number of aerospace technology workers closely monitor the forefront of world technology, adhere to independent innovation, remain scientific and realistic, unite and cooperate, and strive tenaciously, thus winning one victory after another. China's aerospace not only leads the progress of technology, but also demonstrates the significance of hard work and struggle to us. He hoped that all administration, faculty, and students at HFUT could deeply learn the spirit of Chinese aerospace, and strive to achieve new breakthroughs and developments in disciplinary construction, talent cultivation, scientific research, and other aspects based on their respective positions. With practical actions, we would fulfill the university's original intention and mission of "serving the country with technology", and strive to build an internationally renowned research-oriented high-level university and a group of world-class disciplines. Young students should consciously learn from scientists, strengthen their ideals and beliefs, cultivate patriotism and a spirit of struggle, enhance their comprehensive qualities, and strive to grow into socialist builders and successors with comprehensive development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor. They should contribute more wisdom and strength to realizing the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.
More than 300 teachers and students from the School of Management listened on-site, and the wonderful report won endless applause. After the report, Zhang Rongqiao presented the precious "The Map of Whole Lunar-surface Image of China's First Lunar Exploration Project" to the university.
This report meeting is one of the activities of our university's series of "Promoting the Spirit of Scientists and Cultivating the Wish to Serve the Country with Technology", aimed at guiding young students to approach scientists and gain a close understanding of the profound patriotism, outstanding scientific research ability, and rigorous work style of scientific researchers. It is also to guide students to clarify their learning goals, cherish the "greatness of the country", gather powerful forces to build an internationally renowned research-oriented high-level university and a group of world-class disciplines, and write a magnificent chapter in the new journey of building a socialist modernized country in all respects for the university.
