On May 4th, the results of the Third "CHENG Siwei Global Award" were announced in Beijing. Academician Yang Shanlin from our university has won the Domestic Achievement Award for his research of "Theory and application of digital, networked, and intelligent management for the full life cycle of complex products" , while Professor Thomas Sargent's research achievement of "Helped bring 'rational expectations' into macroeconomics and time series economics" has won the International Achievement Award.
Academician Yang Shanlin established the theory and methodology system of digital, networked, and intelligent management for the full life cycle of complex products, revealing the basic laws of its development. He constructed a dynamic decision-making theory system for complex product development process management driven by demand and innovation, as well as a collaborative optimization theory for complex product manufacturing enterprises and supply chain management, and invented key technologies related to digital, networked, and intelligent management of complex manufacturing systems. This achievement provides systematic theoretical support for the digital transformation of the manufacturing industry and the development of the digital economy both domestically and internationally. It has been widely applied in complex product engineering management practices in enterprises including Chery Automobile Co., Ltd., Maanshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (Masteel), Hefei Metalforming Intelligent Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Aero Engine Corporation of China, etc., vigorously promoting the digital, networked, and intelligent transformation of enterprises.
Academician Yang Shanlin has long been engaged in research fields such as intelligent decision-making theory and technology, information system theory and technology, development strategy planning and system management theory, and others. For many years, he has always led his research team to cherish the top priorities of the country, closely monitor national major strategic needs, and strive to solve the most "bottleneck" engineering management problems in basic manufacturing equipment. He has made significant breakthroughs in multiple cross-research directions such as intelligent manufacturing engineering management for high-end equipment, engineering management for aerospace system, engineering management for energy and environment, smart medical health management and so on. A series of iconic and original achievements represented by imaging satellite mission planning, UAV formation management and intelligent decision-making, intelligent minimally invasive medical equipment system, the "DE Medical Cloud”Platform, etc. are both targeting at international research frontiers ("towering") and solving realistic problems ("landing"), widely used in urgently needed key areas in China, such as aviation and aerospace, naval assembly, high-end intelligent manufacturing, emergency rescue, and graded diagnosis and treatment. The program of "Intelligent Mobile Minimally Invasive Endoscopy System with Human-Machine Collaboration" has been rated as one of the 15 World Leading Internet Scientific and Technological Achievements. Academician Yang Shanlin has won dozens of honors, including the First National Innovation Excellence Award, the National May 1 Labor Medal, etc. His research team has been approved as an Innovation Group by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the discipline of management science and engineering which he works for has been selected for the national "Double First-Class" construction list, and has ranked high in the world-class disciplines list.
The biennial "CHENG Siwei Global Award" is established by the "CHENG Siwei Fund", aimed at supporting theoretical research and policy promotion of economic management innovation in education and research, venture capital, fictitious economy, fictitious commerce, and other fields. It mainly rewards domestic and foreign scholars to conduct in-depth exploration in the research and practice fields established or supported by Professor Cheng Siwei (including but not limited to venture capital, fictitious economy, complexity management, fictitious commerce, financial technology, digital economy, macroeconomics, international finance, capital markets, etc.), to propose relevant economic or management theories and methods that are in line with China's national conditions, and to promote excellent achievements in the healthy development of China's economy and society. Each award committee is composed of renowned scholars and experts from both domestic and foreign countries, selecting one international and one domestic outstanding achievement. The selection direction for the third award in 2023 is the outstanding achievements of the study of digital economy by using complexity management methods.
