This 10-hour webinar is the second webinar organized by the University of Hefei, China, the National Technical University (NTUA) of Athens, Greece, and the University of Vaasa (UVA), Finland. It will present advanced topics in modern power systems in fine 2-hour lectures. The increasing penetration of renewable generation at the power systems and distributed energy resources at the distribution networks create new challenges and provide new opportunities for a more efficient and secure system operation. These include power system resilience against extreme natural disasters, the provision of flexibility by DER and the collaboration of TSO/DSO, new requirements for power system estimation, the applications of artificial intelligence techniques, and the role of smart cities and smart citizens.

题目Resilience

:NIKOLAOS CHATZIARGYRIOU

The effects of climate change are increasing both the frequency and the intensity of natural catastrophic events worldwide, as witnessed by several disastrous phenomena. Power system resilience is defined as the ability of power grids to anticipate, withstand, adapt and recover from high-impact low-probability (HILP) events. There are both long-term and short-term measures that system operators can employ for resilience reinforcement. Longer-term measures include infrastructure hardening and resilient planning, while short-term operational measures are applied in the pre-event, during-event and post-event phase. This lecture will define the basic concepts of resilience, including resilience metrics and will discuss selected measures for resilience enhancement. It will finally explain how Microgrids, when formed efficiently can effectively enhance resilience for both transmission and distribution systems, due to their ability to operate in a controlled, coordinated way, when connected to the main power grid and in islanded mode.

题目Flexibility Services-TSO/DSO Collaboration

:ARIS EVANGELOS DIMEAS

The penetration of DG and RES in the Distribution network is increasing, displacing traditional power stations. As consequence, the necessity of providing ancillary services and flexibility by the DG and RES is generated. An approach to tackle the issue is to create market mechanisms involving TSOs and DSOs that will expand the current market structure. These mechanisms could be centralized and part of the balancing market or decentralized with the introduction of local markets. This presentation will present research activities in the EU focusing on the results of the Coordinet Project. The Coordinet project demonstrated various coordination schemes between TSO and DSO and market services in 3 countries in Europe.
